In time for the Pushkar Fair, LPPS has launched a new website called Camels of Rajasthan which calls for a new vision to save the camel instead of just banning its movements across state borders. The website also features an on-line exhibition of images illustrating Rajasthan’s camel culture, many of them by some of the world’s finest photographers. Please visit and show your support!
While we are delighted that the Rajasthan Cabinet has decided to declare the camel “state animal”, we are not happy with the draft “Rajasthan Camel (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export), Bill, 2014” as we believe it will increase camel suffering and quicken the decline of the camel population in Rajasthan, by removing all currently existing economic incentives for camel breeders.
